Tell Me How You Sweat, I'll Tell You Who You Are 💧

Dis-moi comment tu transpires, je te dirai qui tu es 💧

Hello,

In the middle of a heatwave (again), it's the taboo topic that quietly worries all of us. Yet far from being just a sticky, shiny nuisance, sweating is a goldmine of information about your health. It's the most sophisticated biological air conditioning on the planet.

But depending on the area, the smell or the intensity, your body isn't telling you the same story at all. Get your notebooks out, I'm decoding your sweat!

Your Profile: More "Team Face" or "Team Body"?

We're not all equal in front of the thermometer. The area where you first start beading up says a lot about your sweat glands:

  • Face sweating (forehead, temples, "mustache" area): this is often a pure thermal response. Your vessels dilate to release heat as close as possible to your brain. It's the sign of an air conditioning system reacting instantly to protect you from overheating.

  • Armpits, hands and feet: this is the stress zone. These glands (called apocrine) react directly to adrenaline and emotions. If your hands sweat during a meeting when it's not even 40°C out, it's your nervous system racing, not your thermostat.

Did you know? Barely sweating isn't a superpower, it's a warning sign. If your body isn't sweating even though it's stifling out, your cells probably lack the water and minerals needed to switch on the air conditioning. So watch out for heatstroke!

The Smell: Why Does It Change From Day to Day?

Healthy sweat is 99% water and completely odorless. What creates the bad smell is the meeting between this water and the bacteria present on the surface of the skin.

If you find your sweat smells stronger these days, two culprits are worth looking into:

  1. Diet: too much coffee, alcohol, red meat or spices changes your skin's acidity and feeds these bacteria.
  2. Stress: stress sweat (apocrine glands) is richer in lipids and proteins. Bacteria love it, which is why "stage fright sweat" smells stronger than workout sweat.

The Well-Meaning Mistake: Antiperspirants ❌

To fix the problem, the classic reflex is to reach for a powerful antiperspirant (often based on aluminum salts). That's a big biological mistake.

These products mechanically clog your skin's pores. The result? You prevent your body from regulating its temperature. Not only does the heat stay trapped inside, but your body simply compensates by sweating twice as much elsewhere (back, face, thighs). Go for natural deodorants that capture odors without blocking your body's mechanics.

How to Sweat "Better" and Keep Your Energy?

You can't (and shouldn't) stop your body from sweating. But you can optimize the process:

  • Regulate the nervous system: less stress = less acidic sweat. Magnesium is your best ally to calm an overexcited nervous system.
  • Compensate for the invisible leak: when you sweat, you lose sodium, potassium and zinc. If you only drink plain water, you dilute your remaining minerals and trigger that famous afternoon slump.

The Onday reflex: this is the whole point of your morning boost! By providing your body with essential electrolytes and zinc (which purifies the skin and limits bacterial growth), Onday lets your internal air conditioning run properly, without draining your energy batteries or hurting your comfort.

Take care of your bio-mechanics, and have a great week!
